The Baring Foundation
Uomini All’Aperto is a 2 year project funded by the Baring Foundation dedicated to men and the outdoors.
Here’s a dedication from Art Angel founder Derek Ramsay that captures the true nature of this group:
One of our earliest publications declared – God respects us when we work…but loves us
when we dance….and we’re still dancing our own special dance through life…and this new
story – a story being written by the men of Art Angel with The Baring Trust at their side.
Being around for so many years has allowed us to learn and understand, to some extent, the
backgrounds of the men who have taken part thus far. These have not been easy lives;
honey
has not been easy to find for any of them. So, then…one afternoon in February, all of us
sheltering from a storm in a bus shelter with no glass…or…all of us lying in the summer sun
in the great Tentsmuir forest, leaving our hand marks on a cyanotype treated piece of
cloth…and wait for it – all of us laughing together in both situations…not lonely…not
isolated…not frightened…instead, all of us taking a chance to find a way which suits us
best…to source nutrition which helps us prosper…with a little help from new friends.
For us, this has been nothing other than a privilege.

I’m doing a course just now but I know I couldn’t do it without being able to come to Art Angel as well. It keeps me sane. It’s a place you feel safe and you know you can talk about anything. Even on bad weeks I try my best to come because I know I will leave feeling better. I like the freedom it gives you to create anything you want to. It’s become a real support for me.
